New Website!

Finally!  Years ago I intended to get a website up and running.  I even purchased my domain for a year without doing anything with it.  Though I am as good as the average 25 year old on a computer, I am not tech savvy.  Just the task of picking a website format and organizing it seemed daunting.  With my blog and my Facebook fan page I still had my work out there but I wanted a destination that was easy to access for all potential clients.

So now, thanks to Accelerated Web Studios, I am debuting my new website!  Please explore my new space, share it with others, and let me know what you think!

The MAC Attack

I get this question often and I’m always hesitant to answer: Do you use MAC?  Yes, I’m talking about the makeup giant owned by the Estee Lauder company and known for highly pigmented makeup.  My answer is a big NO but it’s not that simple.  In the makeup world there is a boycott of MAC cosmetics by professional makeup artists.

Read about it here.

And so I do not use or own any MAC or Estee Lauder products.  Clients take beauty advice from me and also notice what I carry in my kit.  I wouldn’t want to give the impression that this is a company I support.  I have some links on this site to other web sites that do support and/or use MAC products.  While I have my opinions, I urge others to be smart consumers and do your research.  Form your own opinions and know why you’ve made them.  I wish to provide the best information I can about vegan and cruelty free cosmetics available but I do not stand by every company that has vegan products.

So there you have it!

Dead Dolly

This Halloween proved to be uneventful.  No Makeup Artist can get through Halloween without doing something!  My best friends, model Jenni and photographer Evan decided to have some fun.   This great old house west of Bloomington has always been alluring to me.  It is a classic Victorian home with beautiful details but the lighting we had to work with didn’t allow us to really showcase the home.  But it was still perfectly spooky.

The makeup on Jenni is OCC airbrush base.  I really had hoped to do some injury simulation and monsters this year.  For this photoshoot I wanted something creepy but still within the editorial realm.  I think we pulled it off.  OCC liptars for the lip color.  Urban Decay and Joe Blasco for the eyes.  Somehow I’m always drawn back to the doll look which I find perfectly feminine and unsettling.  I hope you enjoy!

A Makeup Artist’s Favorite Holiday

In honor of Halloween, I would like to post some of my favorite spooky work.

This is a makeup I did several years ago in school.  It involved a bald cap and paint.  The only problem I have with the end result is that I didn’t hide the ears in the bald cap or stick them down.

This one is a bald cap and hairwork.  Not very spooky, I admit.  But this look required a major transformation.  Model is 18 years old.

This injury simulation was done just for kicks on a close friend.  Playing with makeup is just so great!
